Burn Combo

Posted on Saturday, January 22, 2011 in Weight Management

can i burn pictures with a dvd-cd/rw combo rom drive?

it keeps telling me to put a disk in when there is already one in.
the disk i'm using is "DVD-R" recordable! would that be the problem?

*Update:
yes. if you have a DVD, instead of CD in the drive, this would be the problem. your device appears to read DVDs but not write them; but can both read and write to CDs. good catch.

if your CD drive has the "rw" printed on it then it should both "read" and "write" CDs.

for the problem you mentioned, where it keeps telling you to put a disk in ... when there's already one in the CD tray:

first make sure youre really using a CD and not a DVD (unless of course you have drive with DVD/RW capability too).

also, it could be that your drive tray just needs to be opened and closed, when you get that message, so that your computer has a chance to re-recognize the CD in the drive.

another possibility is that it could be that the CD you put in has already been written to once and is now "closed" to further attempts to write to it ... just try another blank one which has never been written to.

there's always the possibility that you just got a bad CD in your stack, too. not very common now a days but still happens. try another blank CD.

not very common, but possible, that your CD/RW drive went bad. if none of the above options work you can check the health of your CD device by going into your computer's Device Manager window (right-click MyComputer and choose Settings, then Device Manager). in the Device Manager window you can see if there are any exclamation points inside a yellow triangle -- which would indicate a problem with the device or its software device driver that Windows uses to communicate with the hardware device. (if this is the issue, might be worth asking another question in the forum to get some good answers).

... but i do hope you dont have any yellow exclamation points and that one of the more straightforward options worked.

best of luck.

cheers.
