How to persuade someone to donate some canned food?

I need to make an announcement for a canned food drive at my school, we'll be donating it to a food bank.
I'm not sure how to make a nice introduction ... the one I have in mind isn't really creative;
"Do you want to donate food to the less fortunate?"

I need something that'll actually make students donate some canned foods. Can you help me come up with a nice introduction?

No: "Do you want to donate food to the less fortunate?"

Yes: xxx people needed our community's food bank last year during the holidays. But this year, there isn't enough food to help this many people again! Please make sure everyone, including children, has food during the holidays. Your donation of a canned food item will help!
