How much land do I really own?

Right, I own a home, on a plot of land. Do I own all of the land underneath right to the earths core? Or could someone be granted permission to build a futuristic complex several miles below my home?

There are actually 3 different parts. Surface rights, subsurface rights and air rights.

And you can sell any of the 3 and still keep the other 2. For example, you can sell the subsurface rights to an oil company and still own and live over the oil.
